brief descriptions of the images
PHOTO (photography)
I photograph light as it enters the interior of a house through windows, capturing how it is filtered and shaped by the objects it encounters. These interactions result in abstract images that are equivalent to Formalist Abstraction. I am concerned with similar issues as the Abstract Expressionists of the 1950's. I would like to eschew the Cartesian tradition of reason, and employ intuition as my creative process. My work is guided by a strong interest in form and spatial relationship. I am trying to create images that are visually and aesthetically intriguing.
TYPE (typography)
These are typographic compositions. I use type purely as image or form—emphasizing its aesthetic qualities rather than its linguistic function. There are no words, no symbolism. The conventional role of type as a vehicle for language is suspended and replaced by a focus on visual expression. My aim is to present typographic forms in a visually and aesthetically compelling way. I am particularly drawn to the spatial relationships between elements and the effective use of blank white space.
AB (abstraction)
This series is a continuation of exploring the grid – vertical and horizontal lines. These images are digitally created with exactly the same method. I started this project in 1995. I would like to generate as many variations as possible. These images are rather formalistic, and devoid of meaning. They are open to interpretation.
